Around The School (Must Do Leadership)

This week... well since Wednesday, I have been at school and in little ways, been a great leader. During the week, I was showing that I can be a good leader by getting on with my school work and trying to get my homework done as soon as possible. I was also being a good leader by wearing a hat when outside (even when I was just going to the drinking fountain) and when I forgot my hat on Thursday, at morning tea and lunch I sat underneath the shade umbrellas.

I think that the Learner Quality I used was Reslient because I felt like giving up on a lot of things this week, but I stayed strong and just got on with it!!

:-)

Peer Mediation (Leadership Can Do)

On Thursday I had Peer Mediation at morning tea, with Natalie because Hailey had something else on.We went around to the playgrounds, shade umbrellas and basically all places that students are allowed to go.
We finished up in the Kakano section and hung around there until the bell rang.
We had zero problems, which was kinda boring for us, but great for the school because it means that everyone had a good morning tea.
I think that the Learner Quality I used was Empathize because I knew that Natalie didn't want to do Peer Mediation but she did anyway because she knew I needed help and I am really grateful for that and will remember that I owe her a favour!!

Librarian (Can do Leadership)

Today at lunch I had Librarian. Honor, Alicia and I picked 3 books each and took some bean bags down to the Kakano area. Today I chose, Barbie Mermaid Tale, A Day With Daddy,  and Barbie In The Dream House.
I had two children listening to my stories but at one point a child came and listened to about a page of my story before rushing back to their friends. I'm pretty sure that the children I had round were called Jessica and Zara, who both told me that they were in Room 20.
Afterwards when coming back, Honor and I discussed how the children reacted to different books.

I think that the Learner Quality I used Resilience because the children kept jumping on me but I stayed strong and just put up with it.

Wet Day Monitor (Can Do Leadership)

Yesterday, (Or the day before :D) it was wet at morning tea time, So I had to go around the Kakano kids classes and make sure that the Year 6s were in their assigned classes and some year 7 and 8s. So I did my job and all of the Year 's were in their assigned classes, so that my job a whole lot easier so I wouldn't have to go to Room 11, or 10 and ask that the kids went to the Kakano classes.

I think that the Learner Quality I used was Resilient because it was SO cold that day and I had to go in and out of classes into the freezing cold weather, but it was my job and I wasn't gonna give up!!!

Peer Mediation (Can Do Leadership)

Today I had Peer Mediation and it was at morning tea. Hailey and I went around the playground, walked a lap of the field and then went around to the Kakano area. We only had one problem, where some Kakano kids had been playing a game that had gone wrong, so we went through the Mediation Process with them, but then it turned violent and we had to go to a duty teacher, who thanked us for bringing them to her.

I think that the Learner Quality I used was Resilient because the Kakano kids kept breaking the Mediation Rules by interupting each other so I had to keep repeating myself to them, but it was worth it because their problem got sorted in the end!!!

Around The School (Must do leadership)

This week at school  we did quite bit of things done!!! But I want to talk about Friday, as that was my favourite day, and Tuesday as it was Tech. But Tuesday first so that the week is in order!!!!

At Tech we did Science and we made Potato Guns and I showed Leadership then by Not giving up while being in the pit, was talking only to the person on the bus, and thanking the bus driver when I got off.

And on Friday after morning tea, my group for our three rotations played a quiz game with two five year olds called, "Whats This Vegetable?" My five year olds, Jackie and Sam knew all of them, then we went to the gardens together and also went and saw the chickens and the pumpkins.

The Learner Quality I used was Collaborate because I collaborated with people at Tech to help me with my potato gun and I had to Collaborate with my little buddies and answer their questions about vegetables.

Peer Mediation... Sort Of (Leadership can do post)

Okay, so on Thursday, I was meant to have Peer Mediation, but the wind was so bad that students were not allowed outside, but I had exeption because I have to make sure that all of the Kakano kids have a Year 6 in their classroom, so that way nothing would be chaos. But the person that I had to do it with was away so I got a friend to help me instead. We went all around all the Kakano classrooms twice and asked the Years  6's in them how everything went

I think that the Learner Quality I used was Collaborate because I had to Collaborate with my friend to help me, and Collaborate with the Year 6's to see if everything was going good.

Leadership! (Leadership can do)

Today I had Librarian! My duty for Librarian is to take picture books down to the Kakano team and read the picture books to them, and I do this with Honor, but we both took a friend with us today.

Today I chose the books Thelma The Unicorn, The Big Bad Book, and Barbie The Pet Vet. There were about 3 to 6 Kakano kids around me listening to me read to them.

We stayed there for about 40 minutes and once we had packed up from it, the bell rang, so I think we used our time wisely.

I think the Learner Quality I used was Collaborate because I had to collaborate with Honor because we had to make sure we both didn't have the same book, and collaborate with the Kakano kids because I had to figure out when to let them try to read the books.

:-)

Leadership! (Can do)

Yesterday I had Peer Mediation! Since the year 7's were away, I had to get my friend (Natalie) to help me.  We couldn't use an iPad since the one that was in our classroom was dead.

We had one problem, but it was only that someone had no one to play with, so we found them someone to play with! But that was the only problem, and I think that is really good, because its showing that everyone is having a good morning tea and enjoying themselves, getting involved!

I think that the Learner Quality I used was Empathize because of the child who didn't have anyone to play with, so we helped him!

:-)

Games with The Kakano Kids (Must Do Leadership)

Today we played games that we planned for the Kakano kids with the Kakano kids.

Natalie and I played Duck Duck Goose with 2 groups of children and they loved it!!! Here are some notes we wrote down while we were planning:
Explain rules
Be nice (even if you get stressed)
Have fun!

We had limited equipment to use so we used 4 cones for boundaries. We also wore our hats all the time.

I think that the Learner Quality we used was integrity because even when we got stressed about it, we were brave and had fun!!!

Leadership In The Food Forest (Must Do Merit)

Yesterday and today, (and tomorrow), the year 7's are at camp, so the year 8's are having a great time right now! Today my group got a bit closer to Mother Nature and did some stuff in the Food Forest!!!

First we pulled on gloves and a few of us got to use special instruments (clippers etc.), and then we got to the weed whacking!!! We pulled weeds out for a good hour until we had got all of them out. I found it quite fun as we got to use wheelbarrows and clippers, that really sped up the process.

We did all of this so we can make room for new plants in spring and make the Food Forest look nice.

Everyone working together to get the job done.

I think my favourite part was when I got in charge of one of the wheelbarrows and pushed the weeds (and my friend) around to Mr McAvens car and back.

I think that the Learner Quality I used was resilience because even when my hands started hurting I didn't give up, and pretty much everyone did that so that was good of everyone!

Leadership Post (Can Do number 3, number 4?)

Today at morning tea I had Peer Mediation, with Hailey. We went all around the school, and had no problems which is great, because it means that everyone was having a great morning tea!!! Though at one point a Kakano child came up to us and asked if I was a unicorn, because today was Multicutural Day at school!

I think that the Learner Quality I used was integrity, because even though it was a wee bit boring walking around with no problems, but we didn't complain, and it was good.

Leadership

WALT: Describe traits of an effective leader.
Over the past week, we have been learning about leadership, this is my SOLO level :

I can compare and contrast the traits of different leaders. I am at Muilti-structal and I achieved this by knowing traits of different leaders.

My next steps are to get to Extended Abstract. To achieve this I will have to do the things I am currently doing and be able to evaluate the effectiveness of a leader

(Leadership trait chart we did in a group about Kathleen Hall, a leader in China in 19 twenty-something)

Leadership Post 3 (Must Do)

On Friday Oaklands went to Jellie Park for their swimming day!!! My class is in the Kauri team, so we had to race each other in some fun swimming!!! I competed in the Length section, usually do only Width but I wanted to try and challenge myself this year. My class went on a double decker bus!!! We all sat on the second story!!
I got second to last in my freestyle race and second to last also in backstroke but I had fun and that is all that matters!!
I think that the Learner Quality I used were resilient because even when the swimming got hard I never gave up!!!

Leadership Post 2 (Can do post 2)

Today I had Librarian. I was going to have it tomorrow, but we are going to Jelly Park, which you will hear about tomorrow!!! But anyway, my duty in the Library, is to, well, take some picture books down to the Kakano area and read them to the little kids!!! Today I read to the children these books:
"It's Mine"
"Animal Fire Fighters"
I think the Learner Quality I used was collaborate because I asked the children questions and we collaborated on the ideas.

:)

Leadership Post 1 (Can Do number 1)

Today I had Peer Mediation, for the first time this year! I was paired up with Hailey and we went around all the school at morning tea. We had a total of one problem, one the Kakano area, where two girls had been playing a game, and one sat on the others back. We used the Mediation process and everything worked out, with the girl apologized and then the bell rang.
I think that the Learner Qualities I used were empathize because the children we helped were about 5 years old, so we had to help them empathize so they could get on :)
