PE - STRIKING And FIELDING

WALT: Apply Striking and Fielding activities in a range of sports and activities. We played "Rounders".

My Strengths

The striking strategies I was able to effectively demonstrate during the games we played were probably keeping my eye on the ball because even though half the time I didn't hit the ball on the first go (Curse you left handisism!) I still knew when the ball was being thrown to me by watching it and keeping my eye on nothing but the ball.

The throwing and catching strategies I was able to effectively demonstrate during the games we played were again, watching the ball, because the ball came right towards me once, but I didn't cup my hands (or move my feet), so I think that will be what I have to improve on.

My Next Steps

To improve my striking of a ball I need to practice striking in general because I am quite uncoordinated and to make matters worse, I am left handed, so I think that I will have to dig up my old tennis racket and practice on a wall at my house!!! Hopefully no windows will be smashed in that process.

To Improve my catching and fielding I need to try and remember to cup my hands because I would have caught it in Rounders if I had cupped my hands.

The game that I enjoyed the most was Rounders because it is fun being on both sides of the game, fielding and striking.

Tech Bus (Must Do Leadership)

This week at Tech I was at science and we made potato guns!!! But on the bus I was respectful to the bus driver by saying hi to them while getting on the bus and saying thank you to the bus driver while getting off the bus. I also showed Leadership this week by showing up to everything that I have signed up for.

I think that the Learner Quality I used was Communication because I had to communicate with people to get work done and communicate with people to make sure that they show up to roles

Wet Day Monitor (Can Do Leadership)

Yesterday, (Or the day before :D) it was wet at morning tea time, So I had to go around the Kakano kids classes and make sure that the Year 6s were in their assigned classes and some year 7 and 8s. So I did my job and all of the Year 's were in their assigned classes, so that my job a whole lot easier so I wouldn't have to go to Room 11, or 10 and ask that the kids went to the Kakano classes.

I think that the Learner Quality I used was Resilient because it was SO cold that day and I had to go in and out of classes into the freezing cold weather, but it was my job and I wasn't gonna give up!!!

Peer Mediation (Can Do Leadership)

Today I had Peer Mediation and it was at morning tea. Hailey and I went around the playground, walked a lap of the field and then went around to the Kakano area. We only had one problem, where some Kakano kids had been playing a game that had gone wrong, so we went through the Mediation Process with them, but then it turned violent and we had to go to a duty teacher, who thanked us for bringing them to her.

I think that the Learner Quality I used was Resilient because the Kakano kids kept breaking the Mediation Rules by interupting each other so I had to keep repeating myself to them, but it was worth it because their problem got sorted in the end!!!

Around The School (Must do leadership)

This week at school  we did quite bit of things done!!! But I want to talk about Friday, as that was my favourite day, and Tuesday as it was Tech. But Tuesday first so that the week is in order!!!!

At Tech we did Science and we made Potato Guns and I showed Leadership then by Not giving up while being in the pit, was talking only to the person on the bus, and thanking the bus driver when I got off.

And on Friday after morning tea, my group for our three rotations played a quiz game with two five year olds called, "Whats This Vegetable?" My five year olds, Jackie and Sam knew all of them, then we went to the gardens together and also went and saw the chickens and the pumpkins.

The Learner Quality I used was Collaborate because I collaborated with people at Tech to help me with my potato gun and I had to Collaborate with my little buddies and answer their questions about vegetables.

Peer Mediation... Sort Of (Leadership can do post)

Okay, so on Thursday, I was meant to have Peer Mediation, but the wind was so bad that students were not allowed outside, but I had exeption because I have to make sure that all of the Kakano kids have a Year 6 in their classroom, so that way nothing would be chaos. But the person that I had to do it with was away so I got a friend to help me instead. We went all around all the Kakano classrooms twice and asked the Years  6's in them how everything went

I think that the Learner Quality I used was Collaborate because I had to Collaborate with my friend to help me, and Collaborate with the Year 6's to see if everything was going good.

Leadership! (Leadership can do)

Today I had Librarian! My duty for Librarian is to take picture books down to the Kakano team and read the picture books to them, and I do this with Honor, but we both took a friend with us today.

Today I chose the books Thelma The Unicorn, The Big Bad Book, and Barbie The Pet Vet. There were about 3 to 6 Kakano kids around me listening to me read to them.

We stayed there for about 40 minutes and once we had packed up from it, the bell rang, so I think we used our time wisely.

I think the Learner Quality I used was Collaborate because I had to collaborate with Honor because we had to make sure we both didn't have the same book, and collaborate with the Kakano kids because I had to figure out when to let them try to read the books.

:-)

Leadership! (Can do)

Yesterday I had Peer Mediation! Since the year 7's were away, I had to get my friend (Natalie) to help me.  We couldn't use an iPad since the one that was in our classroom was dead.

We had one problem, but it was only that someone had no one to play with, so we found them someone to play with! But that was the only problem, and I think that is really good, because its showing that everyone is having a good morning tea and enjoying themselves, getting involved!

I think that the Learner Quality I used was Empathize because of the child who didn't have anyone to play with, so we helped him!

:-)

Games with The Kakano Kids (Must Do Leadership)

Today we played games that we planned for the Kakano kids with the Kakano kids.

Natalie and I played Duck Duck Goose with 2 groups of children and they loved it!!! Here are some notes we wrote down while we were planning:
Explain rules
Be nice (even if you get stressed)
Have fun!

We had limited equipment to use so we used 4 cones for boundaries. We also wore our hats all the time.

I think that the Learner Quality we used was integrity because even when we got stressed about it, we were brave and had fun!!!

Leadership In The Food Forest (Must Do Merit)

Yesterday and today, (and tomorrow), the year 7's are at camp, so the year 8's are having a great time right now! Today my group got a bit closer to Mother Nature and did some stuff in the Food Forest!!!

First we pulled on gloves and a few of us got to use special instruments (clippers etc.), and then we got to the weed whacking!!! We pulled weeds out for a good hour until we had got all of them out. I found it quite fun as we got to use wheelbarrows and clippers, that really sped up the process.

We did all of this so we can make room for new plants in spring and make the Food Forest look nice.

Everyone working together to get the job done.

I think my favourite part was when I got in charge of one of the wheelbarrows and pushed the weeds (and my friend) around to Mr McAvens car and back.

I think that the Learner Quality I used was resilience because even when my hands started hurting I didn't give up, and pretty much everyone did that so that was good of everyone!
