Find Fractions, decimals, and percentages of amounts expressed as whole numbers, simple fractions and decimals.

assessment task
strategy 1
strategy 2
strategy 3
strategy 4
We are learning to apply the strategy to problem solving questions.
I learnt how to find out which is the better deal, but also how to figure out percentages.
What I found challenging was probably the assessment task because I had never really done anything like it before, so I found challenging but once I got the hang of it, it was pretty easy :)

Te Reo, Term 4 2016.

This term we have been learning all about the Marae. We have learned that…….

  • The Marae is an important focal point for the community.
  • The Marae is a place where tradition and customs can be carried out.
  • The Marae is a place where people can express their values with dignity.
  • There are many kawa ( protocols) that prevail on the marae.
  • Marae kawa (protocols) can differ between maraes and iwi.

We have focused on some key concepts when doing this learning.
These are listed and explained in the table below.

Concept
Definition -
give the meaning of these concepts in your own words.
Tikanga
The tradition in the Moari way, the things the tribes may do traditionally different to other tribes.
Pōwhiri
Welcomes, or welcoming people, a greeting, eg, when we came to the destination, we were greeted with a Pōwhiri.
Tangata whenua
The traditional Moaris.
Manuhiri
The people who live at the marae, or help care for it. The people who greet you there.
Tūrangawaewae
A place to stand, sort of like a home.
Whanaungatanga
A family connection to a place.
Manaakitanga
Hospitality, important to the hosts, makes guests feel welcome.
Aroha
It means love, eg. the marae had much aroha in it.

See this video for an explanation of the roles and responsibilities of people on a marae.

Something I would like to learn more about the marae is if they use a different type of wood or gems to represent different things

NZ Identity

This term we have been doing NZ Identity, which basically is when we learn about WW1, Parliament and how it runs, and the treaty of Waitangi. I didn't get to do the WW1 learning as I was away that week, but I got to do the worksheets for ANZAC/WW1 and Parliament. Enjoy!

Peer Mediation (Leadership Can Do #13 Exellence)

Yesterday at morning tea, I did my Peer Mediation duties with Hailey. It was raining a little bit, so when we put our vests on, we kept our jackets on underneath which we don't usually do, but it was really cold!

The field was shut so we didn't have as much ground to cover, but we still went around all the parts of the school that was open, including the Kakano team's part of the school, but they all stayed inside so there were no problems there at all!
It looked like almost everyone in the school stayed inside beside our class and one of the others! So there were no problems at all which was awesome!

I think that the CARE value I showed most was Active Thinking, because for once I remembered to wear the lanyard, and I think I showed leadership by making sure to do my duty, and on such a cold day when I would much rather be doing something else.

:)

Parliament (NZ Identity)

Parliament

This term we have been learning about Parliament. We have looked at the difference between government and parliament, NZ parliament, who is in government, how our government works and we compared democracy to dictatorship.

Three things that I learned are NZ parliament are:

  • That the prime minister sits in the fourth seat on the right of Mr.Speaker
  • That Mr.Speaker can throw out anyone, including the prime minister.
  • That dictatorship is a really bad way to run a country as you are restricting people’s rights to be themselves.

Here is the link to my compare and contrast map explaining the difference between democracy and dictatorship.

Koru Games

The activity I did was football
Two highlights were being goalie because that is my best position and having good weather because who wants to do sport in the rain?
I am proud of my team because we really came together and we had a great time.
Some advice for next years year sevens would be that even when you feel like giving up, carry on and you might surprise yourself, and remember to wear shinpads!

CARE - My Progress So Far

CARE: My progress so far

The CARE award that I am working towards is bronze.

The one area of CARE that I am doing best in is Active Thinking          because I have the most ticks in that row.

The one area of CARE that I need to work harder in is Community  because I haven't really done much work in that row.

To show my leadership qualities I am a role model to others in the CARE values by doing/showing these leadership traits blogging about leadership and showing the care values.

On the CARE SOLO matrix below I am at this SOLO level: Extended Abstract
Because I can use the care values well without being reminded and can role model them to younger students.

Prestructural

Unistructural

Extended Abstract
I am not aware of the CARE values yet.
I know what the CARE values mean.

I need help to use them.
I can use the CARE values.

I need reminding to use them.
I can use the CARE values independently.
I can use the CARE values independently.

I can role model to others how to use the CARE values.

Information Report - The Water Cycle

The water cycle is a process in which water gets cleaned and ready for drinking, and other uses. Today, you will be reading about this cycle and learning about condensation, evaporation, precipitation, and runoff/groundwater, and what they mean and do in this cycle.

Evaporation is one of the steps in the water cycle, as is condensation, which follows right after evaporation! When heated up by the sun, the water in the seas, rivers, lakes etc. will start steaming. As you should know, steam heads up, therefore, when it ends up in the sky, that is the evaporation part in this cycle completed (but remember, it does not just happen to water once. It has been happening to the water on Earth since the big bang). The tiny water droplets in the steam then start clinging to each other, and tiny specks of dust. This is called condensation, and that therefore makes clouds. Once these drops get big and heavy enough, they start falling due to gravity, This is called precipitation.

Precipitation is where the water droplets get to a stage where they get too heavy for gravity to ignore and it starts to rain, sleet, snows, etc. and annoys sports players who were meant to be having a match that day. Speaking of snow, actually, the snow on mountains, what happens to it when it malts? Where does it all go? Lets find out!

Runoff and groundwater are linked. One cannot happen without the other. When the snow melts on mountains and sometimes even hills, the aqua has to go somewhere, so it create or go into the pre-existing waterfalls, and then goes through a process in which the earth cleanses the water with stones, ready to drink. Or, it seeps underground and gets cleaned down underground, that is mainly what we use for drinking. Both of these can happen to the same piece of water. This entire cycle goes on and on, all the time! Evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and runoff/groundwater! And that is the water cycle

I understand the features of different types of texts and text forms.

WALT: I understand the features of different types of texts and text forms. Text features are important because they make variety in what you read, so everything is a bit different and you don't get bored as quickly, but they are also written differently.

Each genre has different text features because they are a text, so they would have to have some type of text feature in them

Two genres that I studied the text features of are website and explanations

My CARE Progress

I have done a check of my CARE progress so far this year.

I am proud of my progress/ I am doing ok/ I feel I could do much better.
(Highlight the one that applies to you and delete the ones that don’t)

Give reasons for the answer that you have highlighted above - I think I am doing okay because I haven't got anything yet, but that is only because I forget to record my CARE ticks, so that's what I need to work on

How far away are you from reaching your BRONZE/SILVER? - I'm about three quarters away from reaching my Bronze

The area of CARE that I need to try harder in C / A / R / E.I need to try harder in all of them, because focusing on just one would delay me with the others, and after 8 years at this school, I think that I am pretty good at all of them.

To achieve my BRONZE award quicker I need to record my ticks and keep better track of what ones I have actually recorded or not.
The one thing that I can do to improve my progress in CARE is start recording ticks more than I do and remember when I am given them.
We will review CARE progress again at the end of the term.

Around The School (Must Do Number 5 Exellence)

The last week of school! Where did the time go? But today I will be talking about the struggles at Tech, and doing yoga with little kids! Yes, you read that right.

On Tuesday at Technology, I took a tiny course on the app Tinkercad, where you make stuff to 3D print. Well, I made a penguin, but it wouldn't save, so I had to try again about 4 times before the teacher helped me make it on her laptop, where it would actually save. If that doesn't say resilient, I don't know what does!

On Friday, me and some other people went down to the Kakano class of Room 15. At first it was really fun, my little buddy was showing me her work and showing me the class frog, but then the teacher called us back to the mat, then started playing that annoying gummybear song with dance moves to it. Great! Then, then, she played What Does The Fox Say!? One of the most annoying songs in the world yay! But that wasn't all. Then she put on a kids YOGA video that we had to participate in! It was actually really hard, even though it was for like, 5 year olds! I don't know how they do it so well!

I think that the CARE value I used was Excellence, because it was really hard not to show that I was getting a bit frustrated with both Tuesday and Friday, and I think I showed leadership by not giving up on my penguin on Tuesday, even after 4 attempts!

:-)

Extra Librarian! (Can Do 12 Exellence)

On Thursday at lunch I had signed up with Honor, Alicia, and Jessica to help run a Maori Language Week thing in the library for the Kakano team, helping the little ones make paper lanterns. So firstly we gave out paper and crayons, so the kids design what they wanted on their lanterns. At first there were so many people that we had to put a closed sign on the door! Then, we helped them cut out handles, and then showed them how to properly fold it, then handed out scissors and showed them how to cut. Once the kids had "handled" that, we helped them with gluing that pizzaa (not pizza)! They had made a lantern, then I would escort them out of the room, outside so they could put their lantern into their schoolbag and go and play with their friends. This was the cycle until Mrs. Ward announced that the library was properly closed and these kids would be the last kids. So they colored, snipped and glued then they were out and we were left to clean up the mess. We helped with that, then Dylan came back into the library (he was taking photos for Mrs. Ward) to take a picture of all of us including Mrs. Ward for something. At first we all did a nice normal looking pose, but then everyone was dabbing, including Mrs. Ward!! It was really fun and I'm glad I did it.

I think that the CARE value I used was Community, because I didn't have to sign up to do that, but I did because that way it would be easier on the community with help, and I think that I showed leadership for the same reason.

:-)

Librarian (Can Do Number 11 Excellence)

On Friday I had Librarian with Honor and Alicia and Nicholas. It was nice having Honor back as she had to go to Te Hapua every Friday, and it was just nice in general. Alicia came with us because she couldn't do librarian on the Thursday, so she came with us so she could still blog about it, and Nicholas came with us to see what it was like. I picked the books Bunch Of Daisies and one about fairies that I don't remember the name of and everyone else also picked two or three so we could all swap books once we had read all of ours. At first nobody came to visit me and my books, but then Nicholas brought his cousins with him and then they came over to us to hear the book I was reading. We stayed there for just about the entire lunch break, then almost as soon as we got back to the library and put away our books and beanbags, the bell rang! Perfect timing!

The CARE value I used was Excellence, because I never need reminding to do my duty and I think I showed leadership by turning up and by making sure I got interesting books that I know that the little kids love.

:-)

Peer Mediation (Can Do Number 10 Excellence)

On Thursday at morning tea I had Peer Mediation with Hailey. We put our vests on, got our lanyards, but we couldn't find the iPad, so that was kind of annoying. The field was shut that day, so it meant that we had to add an extra little trip on our duty, down behind the library, and the block of classes from 8 to 11, as this is where the year 7 and 8's go when the field is shut. There were thankfully no problems in the year 7/8 area, so that was good and it seemed like everyone was getting involved with four square or netball or something like that!
We then went around the courts, and everything  was cool beans there, then we also floated over to the Kakano area. We walked around there for about 5 minutes, with one child coming to us with a problem, which was he didn't have anyone to play with, so we set him up with some people in the sandpit.

I think the CARE value I was showed was Respect, because I respected that I took up this role by showing up, and respecting the little kids problem and helping them find a solution.

Music

I can describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place

Over the past 7 weeks I have been learning to describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place

I can describe these characteristics in a piece of music… (list them below and explain what they are)
Form -
timbre - is like a guitar solo in a song
rythym - The rythym is the thing that helps make a beat
melody - The melody is the music I think.
harmony -  The people in the background like the hmmms and stuff.
Here is an example of my learning - link :D

During The Week (Must Do Number 4 Exellence)

This week has gone so fast!!! From student led conferences, to teaching little kids about habitats on a Friday, it has just flown by!!! But I will be talking about how my student led conference went and how hard it was to teach little kids about habitats!!!

On Monday I had my student led conference at 4:15 with my lovely mother. I was kinda nervous about it at first, but then once I got into it, I felt a bit better. Here is the link to see my student led conference - Student Led Conference.
On Friday, however, Jacob and I were pushed to be very resilient!!! Jacob and I are in the group where we teach little people from the Kakano team (our schools juniors) about habitats. We prepared a cool little quiz and some coloring the week before, but we didn't make it in GERMAN!!! There was a little German girl who was in one of our groups we had to teach, where if we tried communicating with her, she would start crying, and ran away a little bit if we tried using google translate. We had to be very resilient!

I think that the CARE Value I used was Active Thinking, because it was my idea to use google translate to try and communicate with that little girl, and I think I showed Leadership by not giving up, and also trying to pay attention to the rest of my group, and also getting my SLC out of the way and having it go well!

Librarian (Can Do Number 9 Exellence)

On Friday at lunchtime I had librarian with Natalie. What we do as our role for librarian is that we go down to the junior area of our school and read them picture books from the junior section of our school library. So we picked three books, and took two beanbags down for us to sit on while reading to the little kids. We took these three books; Dinosaurs In The Super Market, Grandma McGravey Goes Diving, and We All Get Angry.
At first we only had about one child, but then Natalie went out and talked to some little kids, so then we ended up having about 8 children listening to us read, which I think is a record for us!! But when we finished all the books, the kids jumped on the beanbags when we were carrying them back to the library, so I don't think they wanted us to leave!!!

I think that the CARE value I showed was Community, because I showed up to my duty, and I was entertaining a small part of the junior community! I think I showed leadership by picking books that I thought would be good for a wide range of kids, so not just taking Barbie or Hot Wheels books.

Peer Mediation (Can Do Number 8 Exellence)

Yesterday Hailey and I had Peer Mediation, aka on Thursday at morning tea. We got our vests and lanyards, but we couldn't find the iPad and the pozis had gone walk - about's too. We figured the field was shut (which it was) so we didn't take as long as we usually did, so that was good, but we still had to go around the kakano area.
The kakano area was rather loud that day, but we didn't get any problems, which was great!! Then, we had to go around to the back of rooms library, 9, 10 and 11, as that is where the Year 7 and 8's are allowed to go when the field is shut. There were no problems there either.

I think that the CARE Value I used was Community, because I showed up to my job and therefore helping the community by being out there in case anyone has a problem, and I think I showed leadership by doing my duty properly and following the mediation process.

Student Led Conference Reflection

The things I enjoyed most about my SLC were getting to show my mum my learning

What went well and why? - I think that all of it went pretty well, considering that I got it done in 20 minutes!!! And I think that my mum enjoyed it so that's a big plus.

What were the challenges you faced when preparing and presenting your SLC? - Well, some challenges during the preparation, that it was kind of awkward practicing with my classmates, and making the slide was rather easy though.

What changes would you make for next time and why? - I would probably practice my math slides a wee bit more, because that's pretty much the only one I didn't practice.

Assembly And Other Things (Leadership Must Do Number 3 Exellence)

This week has gone fast!!!!!! But I'm going to talk about Monday and Tuesday, so that way this isn't too long.

On Monday, we had an assembly, where I walked in and out, not talking to anyone and being respectful throughout the assembly. For being so angelic, (ha!) I got a special assembly card, and if you get a card like it, it means that you can out a CARE tick on one of the assembly expectations. Yay!! I also had a good time at tech at Lincoln, because we had to make something without a sewing machine for about 15 minutes and we only had sticky tape to keep everything together so in the end I made a weird looking bag that was apparently quite good and the teacher told me I used my time wisely so yay!!!

I think the care value I showed was Exellence, because I was being a model student in assembly and made something half-decent in tech. I also think I showed leadership by doing the right things at the right times this week, and working with people I usually would not work with

Peer Mediation (Can Do Number 7 Exellence Badge)

On Thursday Hailey and I had Peer Mediation at morning tea. We out on our vests, but I forgot to put on a lanyard, which was rather silly of me, and that's one of my goals on my action plan. Oops!!! But anyway, we went around the playgrounds, then the field, and we had a teensy tiny problem in the kakano area, but it was so little it wasn't actually worth our time to record it, as the problem was that a child couldn't do up their shoelace, so we did it up and went on with our duty. That's pretty much all of the things that happened, but then when we went to put away the iPad, etc., the door was locked to the classroom!!! Oh dear!!!

I think that the care value I showed was Respect, because it was a little bit hard not to have a wee giggle at the kid who needed his shoe tied up, so we respected his problem by not laughing at him, and I showed leadership by showing up to my job.

Friday 10 June 2016

Librarian (Can Do Leadership Number 6 Exellenece Badge)

At lunch I had librarian with Natalie. We got 2 books today, Daisy's cookie, and the dinosaurs in the supermarket. We got two beanbags, then had to drag them all the way down to the kakano  area and took them to the orange deck that's beside the music room, in the corner so that way we wouldn't be in the sun, and so that way the kids who we were reading to would be able to see the pictures without them having to squint due to the sun. At first we had one child, but then Natalie kindly "rounded up" some more kids, so in the end we were reading to up to about 5 kids I think? Yes that's about right.

I think i showed leadership by showing up to my duty, and I think the care value I used was Active Thinking, because of my idea to park up where the sun wouldn't be in anyone's way.

My Short Story

For this piece of writing I have focussing on my vocabulary and punctuation. I have been learning to use a large productive vocabulary across the curriculum (Year 9/10)

The pieces of my writing that are highlighted green are where I have shown my vocabulary and punctuation goal

My Story... It was a quiet autumn night. Scarlett and her friends were catching up and having a bit of a laugh.
"Hey Nadine," Scarlett said while doing an impression of their friend Phil. 'You're pretty new to our school, right?" Nadine nodded. She had only been there for a month and still got lost. She was very lucky to have friends like Scarlett, Phil, and Dan, because they knew their way around as if they had been there for a thousand years.

Suddenly, there was a crash from downstairs. Scarlett sighed. Her cat, Vladimer, liked to play with the pans that hung from the kitchen.

"I guess I should go see what ruckus was." Scarlett said, opening the door and heading out down to the kitchen. "Hey, I'll come with you." Said Phil, putting his hand on Scarletts shoulder. "You never know whats down there!" He said, smiling.

"Okay, lets go." They headed down to the kitchen together. What they saw they will never forget. Vladimer was sitting on the bench, looking like he had just witnessed something magical.

"Oh thank goodness!!" Scarlett said, hugging Phil in relief. "I thought we getting robbed for a second there!" But then she heard the click of a gun.

"What the heck?!" Phil said, keeping Scarlett close in case someone started shooting, "What was that?"

Suddenly, a man stepped out from behind the plastic potted plant that was in the kitchen. Scarlett started screaming but Phil put his hand over her mouth, to not alarm the others and put them at risk too. Unluckily, Nadine and Dan heard the tiny squeal and came downstairs.

"Don't move.'' The man said, his voice a bit muffled as he had a rip off Scream mask on. "Listen man", Dan said, "This better be some sick joke!! Because if it is, stop, its not funny!"

Another figure came out. This time looking female. Then Scarlett heard something and everything went black.

When Scarlett woke up, she was tied to a chair with rope with Phil, in a cage that looked as if the strongest man in the world would fall at it and beg for mercy. The other two were strapped to the sides of another death cage.

"Phil, Phil, are you awake?" Scarlett whispered to Phil as she tried to hold his hand for comfort. No luck.

Scarlett was a claustrophobic, and the environment she was in was just starting to sink in. The bars of the cage were closing in on her, smiling devilishly, baring their iron teeth.

"Scar, are you okay?" Phil whispered, knowing what was going through Scarlett's mind. Nadine started screaming and crying. 'I need to help them' Scarlett thought. But how could she?

"Hello everyone." The man said, emerging from the darkness like a ghost. "Why are you doing this to us?" Scarlett whispered.

"We know your secret, Scarlett." the man said, removing his mask. Everybody gasped. It was their friend, Aleck. All of a sudden the female removed her mask too. Scarlett was in shock. It was Scarletts younger (and very annoying) sister, Tabitha.

"Tabitha!" Scarlett cried. How could her own sister do this to her? "Listen Scarlett," Tabitha said, "I've known since the start about you."

Scarlett was distraught. Now all her friends knew she had a secret, they will stay away from her and never talk to her again.

"Are you listening to me?!" Tabitha screeched, sensing that Scarlett had tuned out. "I want to know... how.. you are a vampire!"

Scarlett looked at her friends. They looked shocked, yet still, in a way, comfortable around her. She breathed a sigh of relief. She won't lose them after all. "Listen Tabitha." Scarlett said, "Have you ever looked at Mum? You were the unlucky one. You are the one who has missed out."

All of a sudden, Dan got really angry. "Let us OUT Tabitha, or you will face my wrath!"

Tabitha snorted. "Why should I?" She quizzed Dan.

"THIS IS WHY!"

All of a sudden, Dan started growing menacing claws, like spears that could rip a knight in the strongest armor to shreads. 'OMG, Dan's a werewolf!' Scarlett thought as Dan ripped through the iron bars and ropes that kept then imprisoned.

"It's over Tabitha, lets get outta here!" Aleck cried as he ran out of the warehouse, screaming like a little girl who's afraid of the dark. Scarlett quickly dailed 111, "Help please, we've been held captive!" She shrieked down the phone. Phil ran towards Tabitha, and pinned her down on the ground so then when the police arrived, they would have their guilty suspect.

Once the police came and arrested Tabitha, Scarlett and the gang stayed the night at Dans. "Well, that just happened." Nadine said, flicking on the TV. Scarlett smiled. Not only did her friends know, but she had a friend like her.

"Who knows whats next in store for us?" Phil said, smiling at everyone.

"Who knows Phil, who knows?"

The End

Peer Mediation (Leadership Exellence Can Do Number 5)

Today I Peer Mediation with Hailey at morning tea. Since the field was shut, we first went around the hall area where the Kakano kids are allowed when the field. There were no porblems there so we moved on to the umbrellas, then behind the classrooms where the Year 7/8's are allowed when the field is shut. There were 0 problems, then we went over to the Kakano area. There was a little boy crying, and he was bleeding, so we got a duty teacher instead, because we weren't sure whether it was physical or not. Since the field was shut, it took us a shorter time to do our job, so this is all the blogging I have for today.

I think that the Learner Quality/ CARE Value I used was Active Thinking, because when we saw the bleeding boy, Hailey didn't know what to do, and I was the one who thought of getting the duty teacher. I think I showed Leadership by turning up to my job on time and getting the job done!!
FUNFACT:  Did you know that when they are scared hippos sweat turns red?

Cross Country! (Must Do 2)

Yesterday at school, the Kauri team had Cross Country!!! I couldn't run, as my knee has something wrong with it, but I still helped Mr.Forman take pictures of the year 7 and 8's running around the track, and I did some drawing in my sketch book, and cheered my friends on who were running.
I did participate in the House game though, but I didn't run. The game was capture the flag and it was run by the House Leaders of Kowhai. I was on the team that won BOTH ROUNDS!!! I tented out in the safe zone for about a quarter of a game but I did make it to the flag zone, but I didn't end up grabbing a flag because I knew that I wouldn't be able to run the entire half back with my knee playing up.

I think that the Learner Quality/CARE Value I used was Community because although I couldn't run I still cheered on my peers and helped out my school community.
I showed Leadership by walking there respectfully by not being rude to the public or anyone else.

FUNFACT: King Henry VIII slept with a giant axe beside him!

Librarian (Can Do #4)

Today Honor and I had Librarian but Honor was at Te Hapua while it was on, so I got my faithful friend Natalie to help me pick books and keep the small children from jumping on me as I read to them.
We picked 4 books: I'm Mad, Billy Goats Gruff, Mitts The Kitten, and another one that I can't remember the name of.
We took three beanbags down to the Kakano area and read the three books to them in a matter of about fifteen minutes. Around one child was there at first, and that was Natalie, but then by the second book, around four children wandered over to us and listened to us read.

I think that the Learner Quality/CARE value I used was Respect for myself and the small children, because I respected their feelings by telling them calmly that the were pulling my hair and it hurts a lot, and I think that I showed Leadership by turning up to my job and trying my best to make the books and voices interesting for the little kids

FUNFACT: If Bill Gates dropped a one hundred dollar note, it wouldn't be worth his time to pick it up. He earns 113 dollars per second!!!

Radio Station (Can Do 3)

Yesterday morning I had radio station. The reason I am blogging about this instead of Peer Mediation is because we had Cross Country yesterday, so I couldn't do it and and my teacher said this was okay to blog about instead.
So on Thursday morning I had to go down to the Radio Room with Sasha and Mr McCullam was helping us out that day, as Sasha needed help knowing how to control the sound bars. I would have taught her myself but I didn't know how to myself so I took note!! So we did our show, talked about Tech and other things that are going on in our class and played some good (and bad) music. Mr McCullam also put me in charge of writing down some new songs for the radio station.
I think that the Learner Quality/ CARE value I used was Exellence as when Sasha was having trouble with something I did some ad-libbing for her so the audience wouldn't know that there was a tech issue going on in the background and I think I showed Leadership by turning up to my job and doing my best!!!

Leadership @ School (Must Do 1)

Last week was really awesome!! Not only was it my birthday, but we had Tech and other cool leadership things!! Lets get started :3
On Monday I got my Leadership Merit in assembly which was pretty good, because I had put a lot of effort into getting it. It is currently tucked away at homewith my last years one.
So last Tuesday, we went to Tech and I am in Cooking. Jessica, Tatiana, Ameila and I made some food (I can't remember what, pretty sure it was pinwheel scones, and regular scones) and had to plan out a recipe to alter to make more Kiwiana. We picked pizza potato pile ups, and the way we made them more kiwi was by adding bacon and instead of using tomato paste, using Watties Tomato Sauce, which was my idea.

I think the Learner Quality/CARE Value I used was Active Thinking, because of the tomato sauce thing and because I finished my short story in class, which is rather.... original.
I also think I showed Leadership during this because I was getting involved with what we were doing and not tuning out like some people in our group were.

FUNFACT: In the early 1920's woman were doing up their corsets so tight that they were actually breaking their ribs!! Ouch!

Thursday 12 May 2016

Librarian (Leadership Can Do 2)

Last week Honor and I had librarian on Friday at lunch. We dragged beanbags and books down to the Kakano Team and I brought three books; Prince Cinders, Barbie I Can Be A VET and Barbie Mermaid Princess. It was kinda funny at first because at first Honor and Alicia (Alicia was helping us that day) had HEAPS of little kids around them, and I had one, but as soon as I started reading one of the Barbie books, they all came swarming to me!!!

I think that the Learner Quality/CARE Value I used was Perseverance because the little kids can be a little... well... hard to deal with.. :p
I think that I showed leadership by showing up to my job that I signed up for and  being able to handle the little kids who are a bit hard to handle sometimes

FUN FACT: The stuff that is in elephant tusks is the exact same as the stuff in our nails and hair :)

Peer Mediation (Leadership Can Do Number1)

Today at morning tea I had Peer Mediation with Hailey. We went around the playground, and had no problems around there, apart from our own problem that little kids kept coming up to us and hugging our legs! We asked them to stop and they eventually did, but it was still a bit annoying.
When we went to Kakano playground/sandpit area, Hailey and I hung around for about 10 minutes before we left, because a grand total of 0 people came up to us who had a problem, which is great for the school, having less problems than usual, but kind of boring for us.

I think that I used the CARE value of Community because the only reason that Hailey and I were out there was because we were helping the community of our school with their problems and I think that we did show leadership because we turned up.

I can describe the structure of a Short Story

Something I have learned about the structure of short stories is everything in them happens quite quickly and they get to the point almost right away.

After reading some short stories two things I will remember when I write my own short story are to try and get to the main plot/problem of the story quickly and use descriptive words to describe what is happening in the story

The Flag

Last week Rooms 25, 26, and 27 did some learning about the flag. We had to pair up and do a worksheet about why to keep the current flag and why we should change the flag
Here is the worksheet, click on the word "here" to access it.

For the worksheet we had to research things about the flag, and fill in the worksheet with what we found.

Expostion

Lately we have been writing expositions. I have been aiming for the 9/10 year level standard and have just finished my writing. Here is the conclusion of it.

In conclusion, I think out of both of leaders, now don't get me wrong but, personally I think the best leader out of JK Rowling and Sir Edmund Hillary is JK Rowling. I think she is the better because she had a tough life leading up to Harry Potter and she never gave up, no matter what life threw at her.
Thank you

Drama

I can... apply the techniques of improvisation to a range of different scenarios.

Think back to your improvisation performances…..
Reflect on these using the two prompts below.

Improvisation techniques that I have used successfully.
Improvisation techniques that I would like to use better/ more.
I thought of things off the top of my head and gave myself only 3 seconds to think of something

I can apply the effective strategies when researching using the Google Search Engine.

Year 9/10 - I can find, select and use a range of texts for specific learning purposes in different tasks in hand learning areas of the curriculum.

For my “Evaluating Leaders” research I have been researching about JK Rowling and Sir Edmund Hillary

During this unit I have had to use a range of strategies to find the information I needed on Google. This included:
Researching their strengths and weaknesses, and on my plan referenced where I got the information and cross-checked the information that I got.

I have achieved this goal by letting others help me when I was stuck/ in the pit and trying my best to get it complete

My next step is to set a new reading goal.
